Onome Child is a non-governmental organisation, duly registered under the provisions of the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992). Our journey began in Tamale, located in the Northern Region of Ghana, and has since extended our sphere of influence to encompass regions across the nation.
Onome Child provides hope and support in a world where educational systems often overlook children with learning differences. It is an unfortunate reality that many students are predominantly evaluated based on their academic achievements, primarily their intelligence quotient. Regrettably, this singular focus on intelligence leaves behind those who may require alternative forms of support.
Within our society, teachers, parents, guardians, and the broader community frequently lack awareness regarding these learning differences, often misattributing them to laziness or a lack of motivation to study. Consequently, these children face a challenging educational landscape that fails to nurture their unique capabilities, hindering their potential for success.
Linda Angelle, also known as Onome, is a visionary leader who is self-motivated, passion-driven, and an enthusiastic advocate for education. Born in Nigeria, she completed her basic education at Dan-Ibu International School, Wa, and had her pre-tertiary education at Lassia-Tuolu Senior High School, all in the Upper West Region. Linda is a young lady who is down-to-earth and deeply interested in the development of children.
Inspired by her experiences as a tutor since 2015, Linda founded Onome Child in May 2020—a non-profit organization with a mission to create an enabling environment for the
development of children with learning difficulties. As a philanthropist, she has made donations in various communities across Ghana. Her commitment to volunteerism has led her to work with organizations such as Cocoa360, World-Wide Future Concerns, Africa Youth Writers’ Organization, and LintelAid, among others.
Driven by her passion, she has impacted the lives of over 500 youth since the organization's inception. She has nurtured and guided young individuals from the foundational level to the tertiary level, yielding numerous success stories regarding their progress and
development. Through her organization, Linda has established the Onome Child Development Clinic and the Becoming Project, aimed at schools and communities seeking to promote holistic
The goal is to promote development in young individuals and provide literacy skills to children in the community who lack access to education.
She is effecting educational and social change by engaging with communities and schools and implementing projects such as the Read-Write Clinic, Career Route, and Between the Lines, among others. The Onome Child Read-Write Clinic has benefited over 100 children.
In the next 5 years, her goal is to impact 5000 children by establishing additional developmental clinics nationwide. Her vision extends to creating a state-of-the-art educational development center that unlocks the full
potential of children, aspiring to become the premier child development organization in Ghana and beyond within the next 10 years. Dedicated to enhancing Ghana's educational system and contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 4, she is a change-maker.
Linda Angelle comes from Nandom- Piina in the Upper West Region and holds a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the University for Development Studies. She is currently pursuing a postgraduate diploma in education; she teaches chemistry at O’Reilly Senior High School and is also an IGSCE Chemistry tutor.
She worked as a medical laboratory personnel and a sonographer before she found her passion in teaching, motivating, nurturing and inspiring others. She says,
“As a child, I remember caring a lot about other children. I took them as if they were mine. I would teach them and take care of them in my own little way. As an adult, I tried my best not to teach. You know, it is rare to hear anyone express a desire to become a teacher. After my degree, I studied sonography. I would have been a talented sonographer, but fate always pulled me back to the classroom. It is true that WHO WE ARE CHOOSES US. ”
Her motivation is drawn from Albert Einstein’s quote, "Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing it is stupid."
